Power & Coal

Power and coal handling moves both dry media — pulverized coal and fly ash — and wet media such as ash slurry and coal slurry. Dry and wet conveying impose different wear and corrosion conditions, so each stream is evaluated on its own terms.

Dry conveying

Pulverized coal, fly ash and bottom ash are conveyed dry. Fine, abrasive particles erode pipe walls, especially at bends and direction changes, and temperature can be a factor. Wear resistance is the primary requirement.

Wet conveying

Ash slurry and coal slurry add water and potentially corrosive constituents to the abrasive solids. Liner selection must account for both particle erosion and the chemical properties of the conveyed medium.

Products to consider

SHS ceramic composite pipes and alumina ceramic-lined pipes suit fine powders and slurries; bimetal pipes suit abrasive slurry and coal slurry; weld overlay pipes suit abrasive duties at low to moderate impact; induction-hardened pipes cover high abrasion with controlled impact; 16Mn steel pipes cover general slurry and bulk transfer. The right choice follows particle size, velocity, temperature, pressure and corrosive content.
