Cement, Ceramics & Building Materials

Cement, ceramics and building-material handling moves both dry powders and granules and wet media — cement, clinker, slag and limestone powder on one side, and gypsum slurry, ceramic slurry and ceramic mortar on the other. The two states wear pipework differently and must be evaluated separately.

Dry powder and granules

Cement, clinker, slag and limestone powder are conveyed as dry powder or granules. Abrasiveness comes from the particles themselves, and elevated temperatures can apply — for example where clinker is handled — so temperature must be stated alongside particle size and velocity.

Slurries and pastes

Cement slurry, gypsum slurry, ceramic slurry and ceramic mortar are conveyed as wet media. Their solids content, particle size and corrosiveness drive liner selection, and wear concentrates at elbows, bends and high-velocity runs.

Products to consider

Bimetal and weld overlay pipes suit abrasive duties; SHS ceramic composite pipes suit fine powders and slurries; alumina ceramic-lined pipes suit fine solids and slurries at low impact; induction-hardened pipes cover high abrasion with controlled impact; 16Mn and carbon steel fittings cover general slurry and bulk transfer. Selection depends on the specific material and conditions.
